Install

Installing Pico is dead simple - and done in seconds! If you have access to a shell on your server (i.e. SSH access), we recommend using Composer. If not, use a pre-bundled release. If you don’t know what “SSH access” is, head over to the pre-bundled release. 😇

Pico requires PHP 5.3.6+ and the PHP extensions dom and mbstring to be enabled.

So I won't use it.I obtain my 3rd party extensions directly from the developer's sites, not from Creative Cloud. But their ExMan also works with my other add-ons. I use a free Extension Manager from DMX Zone who makes extensions for Dreamweaver. Adobe extension manager cs5 mac download.

I want to use Composer

Starting with Pico 2.0 we recommend installing Pico using Composer whenever possible. Trust us, you won’t regret it when it comes to upgrading Pico! Anyway, if you don’t want to use Composer, or if you simply can’t use Composer because you don’t have access to a shell on your server, don’t despair, installing Pico using a pre-bundled release is still easier than everything you know!

Step 1

Open a shell and navigate to the httpdocs directory (e.g. /var/www/html) of your server. Download Composer and run it with the create-project option to install it to the desired directory (e.g. /var/www/html/pico):

Step 2

What second step? There’s no second step. That’s it! Open your favorite web browser and navigate to your brand new, stupidly simple, blazing fast, flat file CMS! Pico’s sample contents will explain how to create your own contents. 😊

I want to use a pre-bundled release

Do you know the feeling: You want to install a new website, so you upload all files of your favorite CMS and run the setup script - just to find out that you forgot about creating the SQL database first? Later the setup script tells you that the file permissions are wrong. Heck, what does this even mean? Forget about it, Pico is different!

Step 1

Download the latest Pico release and upload all files to the desired install directory of Pico within the httpdocs directory (e.g. /var/www/html/pico) of your server.

Okay, here’s the catch: There’s no catch. That’s it! Open your favorite web browser and navigate to your brand new, stupidly simple, blazing fast, flat file CMS! Pico’s sample contents will explain how to create your own contents. 😊

I want to manage my website using a Git repository

Git is a very powerful distributed version-control system - and it can be used to establish a nice workflow around your Pico website. Using a Git repository for your website aids content creation and deployment, including collaborative editing and version control. If you want to manage your website in a Git repository, you use a Composer-based installation.

  1. Fork Pico’s Composer starter project using GitHub’s fork button. If you don’t want to use GitHub you aren’t required to, you can choose whatever Git server you want. Forking manually just requires some extra steps: First clone the Git repository locally, add your Git server as a remote and push the repository to this new remote.

  2. Clone your fork locally and add your contents and assets. You can edit Pico’s composer.json to include 3rd-party plugins and themes, or simply add your own plugins and themes to Pico’s plugins resp. themes directories. Don’t forget to commit your changes and push them to your Git server.

  3. Open a shell on your webserver and navigate to the httpdocs directory (e.g. /var/www/html). Download Composer, clone your Git repository to the desired directory (e.g. /var/www/html/pico) and install Pico’s dependencies using Composer’s install option:

  4. Mac popcorn time download folder. If you update your website’s contents, simply commit your changes and push them to your Git server. Open a shell on your webserver and navigate to Pico’s install directory within the httpdocs directory (e.g. /var/www/html/pico) of your server. Pull all changes from your Git server and update Pico’s dependencies using Composer’s update option:

I’m a developer

So, you’re one of these amazing folks making all of this possible? We love you guys! As a developer we recommend you to clone Pico’s Git repository as well as the Git repositories of Pico’s default theme and the PicoDeprecated plugin. You can set up your workspace using Pico’s Composer starter project and include all of Pico’s components using local packages.

Using Pico’s Git repositories is different from using one of the installation methods elucidated above. It gives you the current development version of Pico, what is likely unstable and not ready for production use!

  1. Open a shell and navigate to the desired directory of Pico’s development workspace within the httpdocs directory (e.g. /var/www/html/pico) of your server. Download and extract Pico’s Composer starter project into the workspace directory:

  2. Clone the Git repositories of all Pico components (Pico’s core, Pico’s default theme and the PicoDeprecated plugin) into the components directory:

  3. Instruct Composer to use the local Git repositories as replacement for the picocms/pico (Pico’s core), picocms/pico-theme (Pico’s default theme) and picocms/pico-deprecated (the PicoDeprecated plugin) packages. Update the composer.json of your development workspace (i.e. workspace/composer.json) accordingly:

  4. Download Composer and run it with the install option:

You can now open your web browser and navigate to Pico’s development workspace. All changes you make to Pico’s components will automatically be reflected in the development workspace.

By the way, you can also find all of Pico’s components on Packagist.org: Pico’s core, Pico’s default theme, the PicoDeprecated plugin and Pico’s Composer starter project.

Upgrade Learn more…

Do you remember when you installed Pico? It was ingeniously simple, wasn’t it? Upgrading Pico is no difference! The upgrade process differs depending on whether you used Composer or a pre-bundled release to install Pico. Please note that you should always create a backup of your Pico installation before upgrading!

Pico follows Semantic Versioning 2.0 and uses version numbers like MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH. When we update the PATCH version (e.g. 2.0.0 to 2.0.1), we made backwards-compatible bug fixes. If we change the MINOR version (e.g. 2.0 to 2.1), we added functionality in a backwards-compatible manner. Upgrading Pico is dead simple in both cases. Simply head over to the appropriate Upgrade sections below.

But wait, we forgot to mention what happens when we update the MAJOR version (e.g. 2.0 to 3.0). In this case we made incompatible API changes. We will then provide a appropriate upgrade tutorial, so please head over to the “Upgrade” page.

I’ve used Composer to install Pico

Upgrading Pico is dead simple if you’ve used Composer to install Pico. Simply open a shell and navigate to Pico’s install directory within the httpdocs directory (e.g. /var/www/html/pico) of your server. You can now upgrade Pico using just a single command:

That’s it! Composer will automatically update Pico and all plugins and themes you’ve installed using Composer. Please make sure to manually update all plugins and themes you’ve installed manually.

I’ve used a pre-bundled release to install Pico

Okay, installing Pico was easy, but upgrading Pico is going to be hard, isn’t it? I’m affraid I have to disappoint you… It’s just as simple as installing Pico!

First you’ll have to delete the vendor directory of your Pico installation (e.g. if you’ve installed Pico to /var/www/html/pico, delete /var/www/html/pico/vendor). Then download the latest Pico release and upload all files to your existing Pico installation directory. You will be prompted whether you want to overwrite files like index.php, .htaccess, … - simply hit “Yes”.

That’s it! Now that Pico is up-to-date, you need to update all plugins and themes you’ve installed.

I’m a developer

As a developer you should know how to stay up-to-date… 😉 For the sake of completeness, if you want to upgrade Pico, simply open a shell and navigate to Pico’s development workspace (e.g. /var/www/html/pico). Then pull the latest commits from the Git repositories of Pico’s core, Pico’s default theme and the PicoDeprecated plugin. https://brownpearl916.weebly.com/blog/quick-heal-antivirus-2014-crack-download. Let Composer update your dependencies and you’re ready to go.

PICO means 'very small' and also stands for 'PIne COmposer'(or 'Pine Internal COmposer'),ie it is a text editor (composer) that ships with the Unix/DOS newsreader 'PINE'.

PICO is designed to be a 'simple editor', ie only the bare minimum of commandsand simply to use. Very good for beginners who wish to write emails and posts.

The editor 'Nano' is an OpenSource project/program to replace PICO.See my article aboutfrom pico to nano [2000-01-27]and nano's homepage athttp://www.nano-editor.org/.

Historic Fact

Download outlook app for mac. PICO commands derived from MicroEmacs-3.6 (so the manual says).

Command Set

PICO does not have many commands - you can learn them within an hour or so.But these commands are the commands you would definitely need to edit a text.

PICO's commands are one-key only, ie there are no commandswhere you have to issue a sequence of two or more keys.

Mode

PICO is always in 'insert mode', ie all letters arenever interpreted as commands but inserted into the text. This is less confusing to a beginner than modal editorswhere letters can be interpreted as commands depending on the mode.

Canon mp540 driver mac downloads. Half the commands are 'jump commands' that move the cursor. This is really basic stuff - you should get use to these within minutes.

info line
The third last line is reserved for messages and prompts.
Examples:
After cancelling a command with ^C you get the message '[ Cancelled ]'.
Atfer using ^O to write out the edited text to a file you get the promptfor the file name: 'File Name to write : filename'.
help lines

The last two lines are reserved for help on the vailable commands. Therefore you need not look for a manual to be able to use it.
Example:
The standard help lines look like this:^G Get Help ^O WriteOut ^R Read File ^Y Prev Pg ^K Cut Text ^C Cur Pos^X Exit ^J Justify ^W Where is ^V Next Pg ^U UnCut Text^T To Spell

^J ('Justify')

^T ('To Spell')

Misfeatures and pet peeves.
Inconsistency of Commands [2000-11-16]
word wrap [1999-12-13]
PICO automatically wraps words onto the next line - or not. This settings depends on the initial setting with option '-w'.You cannot change this from within the running PICO. No way.
That's the reason why NANO now has 'toggles'. :-)
version number not from command line [1997-03-05]
PICO displays the version number on screen after startup -but you cannot request this information on the command line.It would be nice if PICO had an option for that, preferably both '-v' and the long option name '--version'.
nano-0.8.8 does is perfetcly:
no override/quote/escape command [1997-03-05]
You cannot 'override' command characters (ie characters that are interpreted ascommand). Example: ^L - it always get interpreted as a command. Therefore you cannot enter it to your texts.[Vi has ^V to override special characters in insert mode, eg ^D and ^T.]
Command 'write' changes current filename
Fact:The command to 'write' the current buffer to a file is ^O (control-o).
Problem:Assume you are editing the file named 'X'. Writing the current buffer to adifferent file Y will also cause PICO to change the current filename to Y.So when you want to make a backup of the current contents of the buffer to someother file Y then PICO will retain the filename Y and you must remember toswitch back to the file X when you write again. This is annoying when you arewriting a mail, ie some temporary file and write a copy to some other file, asit can happen that you continue to edit the copy but not the temp file whichyou then send off.
Workaround:Start PICO with the option 't', ie pico -t.
maximum line length forces wrap [1998-10-23]
PICO cannot read lines over 255 characters in length without wrapping. This is not affected by the -w flag. But I was told that with pine-4.03 this limitation has been fixed.
Jump to End
Q: How do you jump to the end of the buffer?
A: To jump to the end of the buffer use the command CTRL-W CTRL-V.
Undo
Q: Does PICO have an 'undo' command?
A: Yes, use ^U to undo the last operation (insert/delete).
Startup Options [1997-03-29]
Q:Someone mentioned the startup option '-k'.But this isn't mentioned in my manual about pico. What does it do?
A: RTFM:
Suspending
Q: How can I suspend Pico?
A:You can suspend PICO with ^Z - but only if PICOwas started allowing this (option '-.').
Q: How do I return to PICO after I had it suspended?
A: Use the command 'fg' ('foreground') to exit the shell and return to PICO.
Spell checking
Q: How can I make the spell checker check only the current word?
A: The spell checker cannot be applied to parts of the text (eg thecurrent word).
Q: How can I make the spell checker skip quoted text (when sending a reply)?
A: The spell checker does not skip quoted text.
[Yes, this is really frustrating.]
Quick Jumps
Q: How can I jump around in the file without having to move the cursorline by line?
A: To jump quickly to another position of the file use the search command- ^W.
Quick save and exit
Q: Is there a way to save and quit PICO without having to answer questions?
A: Start PICO with the option '-t' - then you can save and quit with^X.
ANSI / color
Q:Which characters do I have to insert to my text to make it appear asbold/underline/invers or in color on the monitor of the recipient of my text(mail)?
A:Well, this all depends on the monitor (terminal) of the recipient. You would to exactly know which kind it is and what 'language' it understands.Besides, you would have to make sure that the characters inside the textwill not be misinterpreted by all programs that transport your mail. This is usually impossible to know.Furthermore, if you post such a thing then you are asking for trouble -the control codes certainly never fit all terminals. It actually makes some terminals lock up and even force a reboot of somecomputers. So this is 'unneccessary, annoying and generally unwanted'.In short: Don't do it!
Feature Extension [1998-01-01]
Q:How can I add features to pico? How about a goto-line command?Or 'substitution' (aka 'search and replace')?
A:PICO is supposed to be 'as small as possible'.Adding features would totally defeat its purpose. If all requested features had been added to pico, its name now would be 'kilo' or 'mega'. Or 'emacs'. ;-)
Q:But why couldn't you just add [this little feature]?It addds very little to the code and could be sooo helpful!
A:There are many editors about with just a little more than pico.Try them!
'Justify' (Text Reformatting) [1999-03-03]
Q: Can pico reformat quoted text?
A: Yes, pico preserves the quotation indentation of quoted text. But this is limited to text quoted with '>' and the first level ofquotation *only*.
Q: How can I reformat text that has been quoted more than once?
Q: How can I reformat text with other quote indentation?
A: Use another editor, eg vim.[See also the page on 'text reformatting with Vim'.]
Q: How about enhancing pico so that it can 'justify' several levelsof quoted text?
A: Yes - that's a good idea. Tell the developers! Or use Vim.
Telnet
Q:Why can't I use the command ^^ (control-^)?
A:You are probably using a terminal program that swallos this character(eg NCSATelnet-2.6).Either upgrade to a version which fixes this problem (eg NCSATelnet-2.7b4)or use this workaround: Enter ESC-ESC-^ instead.Actually, this is a special case of a general workaround:
From the manual:'As a work-around for communications programs that swallow certain controlcharacters, you can emulate a control key by pressing ESCAPE twice, followed by the desired control character, e.g. 'ESC ESC c' would beequivalent to entering a ctrl-c.'

Summary: You have to download the pine distribution file to install pico.Yes, the distribution of pine-4.10 compressed with GNU zip is about 2.7Mb.I think that's too much to download for installing a simple editor. ;-)But that's why there are precompiled versions of pico (and pine)on the UW server with compressed binaries.
